80’s Music Rules ~ More from Retrospect CFRC-FM ~ 02-17-09

Yet another fabulous evening of uber-obscure 80’s music on Retrospect at CFRC-FM. The first five tracks that Ed-FM spun left me scratching my head and Googling lyrics like mad. There was no way I was going to identify any of the songs that kicked off a set of delightful, dance-in-your-chair, ear-tingling, 80’s tunage. So, I decided to just throw up my hands in surrender, sit back and enjoy what I was hearing, and leave it up to Ed to back-announce the selections.

The music was sensational, truly a welcome gift after a hard day at work, and a pleasurable history lesson indeed. These bands are definitely worth research and a little digging for at your local used-vinyl store. Ed even played Abecedarians, a personal favorite of mine from the 80’s. Mostly known for their one hit “Smiling Monarchs,” the Abs have a plethora of scorching songs. In fact, I’ve just been inspired to feature them here as part of my “Criminally Underrated” series.

Be sure to tune in to Ed and his out-of-this-universe 80’s Retrospect show on CFRC-FM from 8 pm until 10 pm on Tuesday nights. I guarantee hard-core 80’s New Wave/post-punk fans will not be disappointed.

  1. Thanks again MissP, I am glad you enjoyed the obscurities. I am looking forward to your feature on the Abecedarians and pleased that you are inspired.

    Take care

  2. My pleasure – the Abecedarians was a great surprise! It’s about time I did a “Criminally Underrated” piece on them. Thanks for the inspiration and all the fabulous music.

  3. Wow what a playlist! I was stumped quite a few times as well. I kept wanting to message Ralphd or soccerfan from the David Marsden Marsbars and politely inquire “What is this?” Great show! Will be back next week.

  4. Hey ((((Sugah)))))

Glad you enjoyed! Yes, we don’t have Ralphd or soccerfan to fall back on, but fortunately Ed back-announces all of the songs…so if you’re patient, eventually you’ll find out. Me, I’m all into the “let’s hurry up and Google these lyrics” syndrome – but many times, the songs are so obscure, that doesn’t work. 🙂 I’ll tell Ed he has a new listener! Thank you for letting me know.

  5. I didn’t hear this show but do remember Soldiers Of This Fashion by This Fear. Great tune. I have this song somewhere here but haven’t heard it in ages.

  6. Many of these songs would be a challenge for me to ID. I could ID #1, #7, #11 and #16 if I heard them. I likely wouldn’t have an answer to the others which I don’t mind because it’s likely because I haven’t heard the song in a long time because it’s quite obscure! 🙂

  7. Hey ((((Glen))))

The challenge is the fun part! I’m sure that you would hit many more on the nose than I have been able to. Glad you are enjoying the show and I know Ed appreciates all of the feedback – so do I!
